Virtualisation & Consolidation

Virtualising IT Environments across offices and data centres is often looked at as a cost saving exercise as the results, if completed correctly, often show a saving against operational costs. Naturally with less equipment there is an obvious saving when you look at the management and maintenance of your environments. This is delivered by consolidating your legacy physical hardware into a virtualised model. The end result will be a single management platform enabling you to easily manage and dynamically size your IT infrastructure and deliver on-demand and dynamic services.

There are extensive options available from vendors across the virtualisation market with some specialising in network, security, storage, and server virtualisation and each of these vendors has a different approach and delivers varying results. Lifecycle has completed extensive testing across a number of key vendors with a view to simplifying the process for our clients. Partnering with world class vendors and carefully crafting a select a range of products and services to support effective virtualisation strategies we have devised strategies and services to address some of the common yet difficult to resolve challenges across virtualised environments.

Traditionally virtualisation consultancies will specialise and focus on one area for consolidation --normally network, storage or server architecture. Lifecycle's approach is slightly different, with our main focus being the delivery of an end-to-end service and resolving some of the common challenges associated with virtualising one area of IT.
 

Here at Lifecycle, we have developed services and partnerships to deliver complete routing and network security functionality within VMware, Xen/XenServer, and KVM virtual or cloud computing environments. Our solution can be delivered as software installed into virtual or cloud environments or as an appliances -- both with unquestionable high-performance and modular designs that employ standard x86-based multi-core processors. We are able to build custom routing and security solutions using standard x86-based hardware and/or Virtual Machines which scales from a small LAN all the way up to a large WAN.

IPv4 runs out!

IPv4 address exhaustion is the decreasing supply of unallocated Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) addresses available at the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) and the regional Internet registries (RIRs) for assignment to end users and local Internet registries, such as Internet service providers. IPv4 provides for approximately 4 billion addresses, and with the current allocation granularity of /8 blocks, each approximately 16.8 million addresses, IANA's primary address pool exhaustion is estimated to be reached by 4-Feb-2011. Lagerholm holds that exhaustion should already have happened as from January 15, 2011. As of January 16, 2011, only seven of the 255 allocation blocks remain available, or less than 3% of the IPv4 address space.
